Silhouette portrait workshop at Harewood House, 16 May 2013, 6-9pm

Silh_2011Publicity003 copyThe noted physiognomist Johann Caspar Lavater (1741-1801) returns for one night only to give instruction in the noble art of Shades, or silhouette portraits. Using a replica silhouette chair as designed by Lavater and the German poet and scientist JW Goethe, visitors can draw each other’s profiles before reducing them to black paper miniatures, and taking home a mounted likeness.
